You received that wedding invitation in the mail and uh-oh... it doesn't have a dress code. You have no idea what to wear or wear to shop. Tonight, I've teamed up with Ella Mae's Formal to share four different looks for summer wedding guests.
Before you hear "formal" and think expensive, these summer wedding guest dresses from Ella Mae's are so affordable. Everything I'm sharing is actually $65 and under and you'll even see some cocktail styles.
First you should know that it's a wedding and it's important to show respect for the bride and groom by dressing for the event. If it's a backyard wedding or a church wedding, what you wear will be different, but you still want to be styled appropriately.
Summer Wedding Guest Dresses Tips
Backyard Wedding or Beach Wedding
If you're headed to a backyard or beach wedding, then this dress is perfect. First of all it's a maxi so if it's windy, you won't have to worry about your dress flying up. It has the lace and floral combo which instantly elevates the look. Some of you might be concerned about the whole "don't wear white to a wedding" thing with the top of this dress. In my opinion, this one is acceptable because the bottom of the dress dominated with the navy floral pattern.
Outdoor weddings can be tricky. The weather can be unpredictable and so warm in the summer. It's important to remember you're going to a ceremonial event, but also want to stay cool. This dress reminds me of something that's perfect for a garden setting so for an outdoor wedding it works well. I paired this with a fun heel that Ella Mae's sent and I LOVE it. It totally flows with the vintage vibes happening in the dress. However, you could also wear this with wedges which might be easier to walk in outside.
In my opinion, for church weddings, dresses or skirts are a must. I requested semi-formal attire for our church wedding so hopefully people wouldn't show up in jeans. This dress combines elements of class and fun making it great for the elegant ceremony and dancing at the reception later. I love the ruffle detail around the cold shoulder. This one is also perfect for those beautiful fall weddings coming up.
If you're headed to a semi-formal wedding, that means nothing short of a cocktail dress. It's going to be an elegant setting and you'll want to make sure you're not underdressed. This dress is simply stunning. I love the lace appliques on a bodice that's actually quite comfortable. It has built in cups so yay for not having to mess with a strapless bra all night. I just styled this with a simple strappy nude heel to complete the look.
