I’m sitting at my computer with 8 tabs open on Chrome on one screen and 7 tabs on safari on the other. I’m jumping back and forth between scheduling social media, answering emails, and writing blog posts. I glance at the clock. How is it already 7pm? I’ve been sitting here since 9am.

Balance is such a funny word in terms of my life. I try to do it all: work, be a good wife, go to networking opportunities, be a decent friend, call my parents to update them on my life, time for self-care. The truth is, we can’t do it all. At least, not well and not without a support system. Over the last year, I’ve learned that balance is necessary in order for me to be productive and happy.

It’s important to figure out what balance looks like for you based on your life and what your priorities are. Below is what I’ve found works for me in fostering some evenness in my life.

  1. Create boundaries and stick to them. If you say you’re going to be done working at 7pm, log off. Disconnect. Put your phone in another room. Whatever boundaries will help you feel more at peace, do it.

  2. Take time for yourself. Self-care is one of my favorite things to do. From facials at LASSI to massages at Massage Heights, it’s so important to just spoil yourself.

  3. Find your happy place. My happy place is in the mountains, but since we don’t have those here in Indy, I settle for the water. Lakes, rivers, ponds. Anywhere there is water, I just feel a certain stillness that slows my busy life down for a minute.

  4. Recognize what makes you feel off. Sometimes when I’m aimlessly scrolling, my mind drifts and starts to compare. I instantly feel off-kilter.

  5. Learn how to say no. The power of no is so good. You have to learn how to protect your yes’s for the opportunities that are of the utmost importance.

I thought it was so appropriate to partner with 32 Degrees for this post because their relaxed vibes are exactly the kind of balance I need when it comes to my wardrobe. I have plenty of “trendy” blazers, graphic tees, and entirely too much denim. For casual, comfortable pieces this is an excellent brand to check out. Their athleisure style is my go-to for the weekends and for running errands.

Whatever balance looks like for you, it’s important that there’s plenty of it in your life. Otherwise, you’ll feel like your drowning, always trying to play catchup.

Cheers to evening out the scale,

Steph
