Would you believe me if I told you I use to be self-conscious about my armpits? Seems so ridiculous, right? But, it’s true. Dark hair and intense razor bumps kept me from wearing tank tops and my favorite dresses because I was embarrassed someone would notice I hadn’t shaved in three days because it hurt too much.
I made the decision to get laser hair removal in 2015 both for my underarms and a Brazilian. Oh yeah, I had that whole area treated and yes, it hurt. Growing up in the dance world, I always shaved and that was a hassle so this seemed like a good option for me. Bet you feel like we just took our online friendship to a whole new level, huh?
After six treatments, it seemed like I was good to go. My last one was completed in September 2016 and since that time, the hair growth has started to come quicker in between me shaving which is definitely not as often as it used to be.
When I first started working with LASSI, I knew they had laser hair removal treatments so we chatted about doing some touch ups on the areas I’d had treated previously. Let me tell you that this experience was about a hundred times better than the first time around.
Maura took me back to the treatment room and explained the process first. She told me she would apply a gel before using the laser, which was the first difference. When I asked her for stress balls (because I clung to those suckers the first time), she said, “Steph I really don’t think you’ll need them. This is not that bad.” And I’ve learned to trust Maura’s suggestions because she’s pretty much 100% accurate on pain and healing times.
We did my underarms first and she constantly moved the laser around on the cold gel she’d applied. I could not believe how easy and painless it was. The laser did start to heat up, but it was nothing like I had had done previously. In less than 10 minutes, my underarms had been treated and it was time to move on.
LASSI doesn’t offer a full Brazilian due to the laser they use and keeping things sanitary, but they do offer extended bikini which is really all you need anyway. The top part is always the worst. It must have something to do with the skin not being as thick there, but again, this was so much better than the first time. Maura used the cold gel and constantly moved the laser, spot treating only a handful of times (that’s when you’ll notice a bit of discomfort).
A few things to know if you want to have laser hair removal:
You cannot have a spray tan or a tan of any kind when you’re treated.
If you’re having your underarms treated, don’t wear deodorant to your appointment.
You’ll need 6 treatments scheduled 3-4 weeks in between sessions and you can’t get a sunburn.
Laser hair removal is temporary, not permanent. That being said, the hair does not grow back as coarse or as fast. I shave much less and don’t experience the razor burn situation like I used to.
There is no downtime other than the fact that you can’t get a sunburn.
You need to shave the area you’re having treated before you go.
What I love about LASSI with any treatment they offer is their professionalism. They tell you exactly what to expect, what’s happening, healing times, and they provide you with what you’ll need after treatments if necessary.
If you’re interested in hearing more about laser hair removal, give LASSI a call. They are happy to answer your questions and get you scheduled for your first treatment. You could also plan to attend their Spring Open House on April 11th from 3-6pm. They are going to have discounts on their products and service and this is a great way for you to meet the team I trust with my skin.
Cheers to silky smooth armpits,
