On Saturday, February 23rd a vision came to life that was so much more than I could have imagined. As Told By Us brought together 160 women who are so passionate about something in their life that they dedicated an entire Saturday to learning how to do that thing better.
When I walked in to VisionLoft that morning, I just stopped and looked around this big empty room and thought, “holy shit, this is really happening.” I’d been dreaming about this conference since April 2018 when I first met with Julie from VisionLoft. I wanted to create a space that was educational in a way that would help these women implement new strategies in their business, but I also wanted them to build new relationships with one another. As Told By Us was a conference for the dreamers, doers, and fempreneurs who are writing their own stories and chasing their biggest goals in life as the modern businesswoman.
The morning started with mimosas and a dance party. I wanted to make sure to that everyone stayed energetic and engaged throughout the day and dancing is such a great way to break barriers. I kicked the conference off by sharing my story because I genuinely wanted the audience to learn from my obstacles, resistance, and fear of failure. If there’s one thing that As Told By Us attendees took away from my journey, it’s that everyone has a story that matters and deserves to be told. Our stories are the grounds for why we start businesses, have certain beliefs, and make various decisions in our lives. YOUR STORY MATTERS.
The first panel of the day featured experts from various industries to chat about branding and the importance of it within your business, even your personal brand. In this panel, everyone agreed that establishing you voice is key to your brands’ success. It’s important to understand your mission behind what goes into the work you do and the content you create. In order to develop your brand you need to understand the problem you are trying to solve for your audience.
Discovering Your Brand Panelists:
Next up: lunch. I want to take a minute to give a huge shout out to Indy Fresh who provided lunch for all of the attendees. They use the freshest ingredients and had options for everyone including those with allergies. I also loved our boxed lunches since we didn’t have tables, the boxes made that easier. I highly recommend Indy Fresh for your next event.
After lunch, we kicked things back off with a panel all about social media and how to grow this year. This was another stacked panel with experts who are so knowledgable in this industry. I think one of the biggest takeaways in this panel was that these platforms change rapidly and it’s important to remember to drive traffic back to your own site. Video was also a hot topic because we are going to see it come to the forefront of these platforms this year.
Social Media Best Practices Panelists:
After a quick break, we picked things back up with Erinn Bridgman, a badass business coach. Erinn walked attendees through a visualization and a strengths exercise which was a great way to show what she does for her clients. I can’t tell you how important it is to have someone that can help guide your business strategies and work with you on niching down because we can’t do all the things. One attendee posted this on Instagram: “A few weeks prior I decided to invest in myself by buying a ticket to the #astoldbyus conference. This conference gave me so much knowledge, but more than that it gave me the vision for my life. The keynote speaker @erinn_bridgman walked us through a visualization asking us to imagine ourselves in 20 years, in less words. By the end of the day I was exhausted, to say the least, but my fire for my life had been lit.” -@iampaigelor
The last panel of the day was a crowd favorite, Let’s Get Personal. For this conference I wanted to focus on 3 areas I feel like female creatives and entrepreneurs struggle with: branding, social media, and self-care. This last panel featured some incredible women who shared their journeys and what self-care looks like for them.
Let’s Get Personal Panelists
The day ended with wine from Smith Devereux during Happy Hour Networking. Attendees had the chance to build relationships and make connections they might not have made without making the decision to show up that day.
To the sponsors that made this possible, thank you. You are all rockstars and I’m thankful for the relationships I’ve built with each of you. You all hand a huge hand in bringing this vision to life with your talents and I’m just so grateful.

“So when’s the next one?”
This is a question I keep getting from those of you that attended and that makes my heart so full. To be honest with you, I’m not sure. I have so many ideas on where this could go and what I want it to be. There are some major changes coming in my life that I’m not quite ready to share yet (no, I’m not pregnant), but just know that this day is one that I’ll remember forever and I hope you do too.

“I learned a lot about self care this past weekend at the #astoldbyusconference but what I know above all is that if you don’t have the willingness to laugh at yourself-no amount of meditation or relaxing oils will be able to calm your mind. Take your passions seriously but never take yourself too seriously ❤️” - @shopginaceleste
“A big takeaway from As Told By Us was so simple: there’s only one YOU. No one can do what you do because (duh) they’re NOT you! This is something that we tell our kids, students and friends. What’s stopping us from remembering this about ourselves? We are enough. You are enough. You are the only you.” -@audacityrising
“Friendships and collaborations are already beginning from the #astoldbyus conference! Today I was able to sit and have coffee with Kellie, the owner of @thelemondime. Their vision is to spread love and light by providing dignified work to women at risk and to survivors of human trafficking. She has such a big heart, and when I learned her story, I quickly realized how much we were alike and how our very own stories resonated with each other so much. The funny part is that we didn’t event get to talk at the conference but we both wanted to connected and found each other afterwards!! • • •
Friends, I went into this conference with anxiety, feeling like I would be completely out of my comfort zone and unsure of the connections I would make, but wow this has been a GAME CHANGER. I left with friends, feeling encouraged and inspired and now I am forming relationships with other women who have the same dreams as me! This has changed everything and I’m so thankful to @trendyinindy for stepping out and putting this community together. @thelemondime thank you for allowing me to represent your brand 💜 • • • •” - @elevatedbyjc
